Williamsport Crosscutters News Release

Williamsport returned home Monday evening for the opening game of a three game series against the Hudson Valley Renegades after a season long six-game road trip in which they won four out of six. The Cutters were able to muster just enough offense in defeating the Renegades 2-1 for their third consecutive victory ending the Renegades eight game win streak in the process.

The Crosscutters scored a run in the bottom of the first inning to take the early 1-0 lead. CF Carl Uhl hit a double to left field to lead off the inning and later scored when DH Jeremy Barnes was safe at first on a throwing error that could have been a potential double play for the Renegades.

The lead was short lived however, as Hudson Valley's 1B Eligio Sonoqui led of the second inning with a long solo home run to right field tying the game at one.

The Cutters scored the game winning run in the bottom of the 5th inning when Uhl scored on a passed ball. Uhl walked and went to third on RF Micheal Dabbs single to center. With Barnes batting the Renegades catcher could not keep a ball in front of him, the ball squirted to the backstop allowing Uhl to score the second run of the game. On the night Uhl finished 2-3 with two doubles, a walk and scored both Cutters runs.

Crosscutters starting pitcher Matt Way (2-1) threw a brilliant 6 innings in which he made one mistake, the second inning solo home run to Sonoqui. He allowed three hits total, one earned run and struck out six in picking up his second victory of the season.

RHP Eric Massingham (1-1, 0.93) struck out two in the ninth giving him his first professional save.
