BURLINGTON, VT --- Juan Jaime tossed five scoreless innings and the Vermont Lake Monsters used a five-run fourth inning to defeat the Brooklyn Cyclones 8-2 in New York-Penn League action Monday night at historic Centennial Field.

Jaime (2-1) allowed just two hit with three walks and eight strikeouts in his five innings for his second win of the season. In two starts at Centennial Field this season (Monday vs. Brooklyn and June 27th vs. Oneonta), Jaime has allowed four hits with six walks and 17 strikeouts in nine scoreless innings of work.

Vermont got on the board in the second inning as Dan Killian led off with an infield single, stole second and scored on a Jack Walker RBI double down the leftfield line. The Lake Monsters increased the lead to 6-0 with the five-run fourth inning.

With runners on first and second with no outs, J.R. Higley laid down a sacrifice bunt that pitcher Brandon Moore threw down the rightfield line for a two-run error. Walker followed with an RBI single to center scoring Higley, while Francisco Soriano added an RBI double and J.J. Sferra an RBI single as Vermont scored four unearned runs in the inning.

The Lake Monsters added another run in the sixth on three walks and a wild pitch and got another run in the seventh on a bases loaded groundout. Brooklyn scored both its runs in the top of the seventh on a sacrifice fly and wild pitch.

Walker was 2-for-2 with two walks, a run scored and two RBI in the game, while Soriano and Sferra both had two hits and an RBI. Nick Santomauro was 3-for-4 with a triple for Brooklyn (21-10), while Moore (4-1) allowed six runs (two earned on six hits over four innings for the loss.

The victory snapped a Vermont nine-game Centennial Field losing streak to the Cyclones. The Lake Monsters had not beaten Brooklyn at home since July 21, 2004, losing three games in each of the last three seasons at Centennial. The win also moved Vermont (16-14) two games above .500 for the third time this season.

The Lake Monsters will look to get three games over .500 for the first time this season when they host Brooklyn again on Tuesday night with Chad Jenkins, just promoted from the Gulf Coast League Nationals, getting the start for Vermont in the 7:05 pm contest.
