WILLIAMSPORT, PA (July 20, 2009) - The Renegades eight-game winning streak came to an end Monday night as the Renegades lost to the Williamsport Crosscutters (Philadelphia Phillies affiliate), 2-1 at historic Bowman Field. Renegades starter Jason McEachern picked up his first loss of the season despite giving up two runs, just one earned, and striking out five.
Eli Sonoqui came up big for the Renegades as he recorded a 1-for-3 night with his second home run in as many days. The long ball marks Sonoqui's team-leading fourth of the season and extended his current hitting streak to three games.
The Crosscutter jumped on board first taking advantage of a lead-off double courtesy of Carl Uhl. With Uhl on second and Michael Dabbs on first, Jeremy Barnes hit a ground ball to Burt Reynolds at third. Uhl scored from second as Reynolds tried to turn the double play but was only able to retire Dabbs at second.
The Renegades came back in a big way in the visiting half of the second as they knotted the game up at one run apiece. Sonoqui greeted the Crosscutters starter, Matt Way, in the second with a long ball that flew deep over the right field wall.
In the bottom of the fifth Williamsport took advantage of passed ball by Renegades catcher, Mark Thomas. With runners at second and third Thomas, let a pitch from McEachern get away from him which plated Uhl from third and brought the score to its final, 2-1.
The Renegades look to start another winning streak Tuesday night as they take on the Williamsport Crosscutters for game two of the three-game series. The Crosscutters will be sending righty Siulman Lebron (3-1, 3.03) to the mound and the Renegades will be countering with right-hander Kevin Chavez (0-0, 3.54), who will be making his first start as part of the Renegades rotation. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m.
