Williamson and Valdez Star in First Half of Double Header, Revs Fall in Second

York Revolution News Release

The York Revolution played two at Santander Stadium on Tuesday night after Monday's rainout, and ended up with a rather spectacular split against the rival Lancaster Barnstormers.

In the opener, Logan Williamson took a no-hitter into the sixth inning of the seven inning game, dominating the Lancaster hitters and finishing with nine strikeouts. Anderson Feliz broke up the no-hit bid with two outs in the sixth, with a double down the line to left.

Shannon WIlkerson powered the Revs offense early, with a two-run blast over the Arch Nemesis in left field off of Barnstormers starter Bryan Woodall.

The Revs looked poised to post their second shutout in as many days against Lancaster, but ran into some trouble closing it down in the seventh. Williamson gave up base knocks to Lance Zawadzki and Luke Hughes to start off the inning before giving way to closer Josh Judy. After a pop out by Brian Cavazos-Galvez, Judy rolled a potential double play ball that should have ended the game, but recently signed Starlin Rodriguez threw wide at second to load the bases. Judy then had a tough time navigating the strike zone of home plate umpire Kris Kiersarsky, walking in two batters in between strikeouts. Wilson Valdez bailed out Judy for the final out, with an unbelievable over the shoulder catch after left fielder Nick Ferdinand slipped in left to get the Revs out of the inning.

Valdez provided the heroics again in the bottom of the inning, singling home Rodriguez after he had singled and stolen a base, to secure the victory for the Revs.

The Revs geared up for the second game against the Barnstormers just 45 minutes after the first game had ended, sending Shawn Hill to the mound to face lefty Matt Packer.

Hill struggled out of the gate, giving up three runs in the first inning to a Barnstormers team that came out of the break swinging. The Revs however, would put up a big inning of their own in the third against Packer, with Rodriguez homering in just his third game with the Revs and Andres Perez, Johan Limonta and Brandon Boggs all coming through with clutch RBI hits of their own.

The lead would not last though, as first baseman Kevin Rivers hit a three-run homer off of Revs reliever Leyson Septimo to put the Barnstormers in the lead for good. Lancaster tacked on another run for good measure in the sixth, with Luke Hughes smacking a home run off of Nick Mutz, making it 9-5 in favor of the Barnstormers, a score that would hold until the final out.

The Revs look to take the series on Wednesday, Emergency Responders night at Santander Stadium, with York righty Anthony Lerew (3-1, 3.70) taking on Lancaster right-hander Joe Gardner (0-1, 9.00) at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.

Notes: Williamson came within four outs of the first no-hitter in Revs history, the closest that a Revs pitcher has come to achieving the feat. It was the Revs' longest no-hit bid to begin a game since Brett Tomko began a pair of starts with 5.1 and 6.1 no-hit innings during the 2013 season. Williamson retired his first 13 batters, tying a Revs season-best for consecutive hitters retired in a game. His nine strikeouts established a season-high for a Revs pitcher. Both runs charged to Williamson were unearned, as he now owns a 1.24 ERA as a starter this season. The walk-off win was the second of the season for the Revs and second in four games. Valdez' hit was the first walk-off hit of his York career. Through the game one victory, the Revs improved to 7-2 against the Barnstormers on the season with five consecutive wins head-to-head. The five-run fifth inning allowed in the second game was the biggest inning surrendered by the Revs since a five-run inning in Camden on May 27. The nine runs allowed in the second game were the most since allowing nine vs. Somerset on May 24.
