Southern Maryland Blue Crabs News Release
WALDORF, MD - The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs Minor League Baseball Club has announced that General Manager Patrick Day has been promoted to President/GM. In this new position he will assume a larger strategic planning role with the franchise.
As General Manager, Day, 40, has been in charge of day-to-day operations of the Blue Crabs since 2012. As President/GM he will continue to oversee all aspects of operations but will now be responsible for expanding the outreach and visibility of the ball club, including seeking local representation to the team's Board of Directors as part of the Club's future plans.
Prior to his hiring by the Blue Crabs, Day began his career in Baseball with the Charleston Alley Cats of the Class A South Atlantic League as the assistant general manager. He then moved into a similar role with the Montgomery Biscuits of the Southern League, a franchise that twice claimed "Baseball America's AA Franchise of the Year" award while Day was in that role. He later spent six seasons as the general manager of the Lansing Lugnuts. Day grew up in western Massachusetts, and attended Concord University in West Virginia, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in mass communications with a focus on public relations and advertising. Day resides in the Waldorf area with his wife Erica and two daughters, Emerson and Harper.
"I cannot think of anyone better suited to undertake this important role at this time than Patrick," said Blue Crabs Chairman Peter Kirk. "Patrick's success in the Southern Maryland region as well as his extensive resume and history of success in Minor League Baseball speaks for itself. This promotion recognizes Patrick's contributions and the important part he will continue to play in maintaining franchise stability and long-term, positive business growth," Kirk added.
"This promotion is very humbling and I am very grateful to the Board of Directors for having the confidence in me to lead this franchise in this enhanced role," said Patrick Day. "We have everything in place to continue to build on the success this franchise has enjoyed since its inception, despite the challenges of the economic downturn. My wife, Erica, and our family love living in Charles County and are proud to call Southern Maryland our home."
"I am very excited about the planned new community initiatives that we will be announcing shortly," Day added. "Not to mention the fun of having a Division leading team under the leadership of Field Manager Stan Cliburn. Go Blue Crabs!"
