Anaheim Arsenal News Release

ANAHEIM, Calif. - Jawad Williams hit a jump shot just inside the three-point line as time expired in the second overtime period to lead the Anaheim Arsenal to the 113-111 victory over the Los Angeles D-Fenders Saturday night in Anaheim. The Arsenal is now leading the D-Fenders by a half game for the final playoff spot in the Western Division.

That was not all for Jawad Williams on the night. After Nick Lewis hit a three pointer to give the D-Fenders a three point advantage with time winding down in regulation, Williams responded with a three pointer of his own to tie the game and send it into overtime. Williams finished with a solid double-double, recording 26 points and 11 rebounds.

The Arsenal had a 101-99 lead with just seven seconds remaining in the first overtime period, before Brian Chase hit a running jumper to tie the game as time expired. Chase ended the game with 17 points.

Outside of Williams, the Arsenal received strong performances from Davin White and Andre Owens, as they finished with 23 and 22 points, respectively. Tyler Smith finished with 16 points and seven rebounds, before fouling out in the second overtime.

"Once again, our guys stepped up for us tonight," said Arsenal head coach Reggie Geary. "Jawad came through again for us, as he has been all year, being a MVP candidate."

Sean Banks led the D-Fenders with 29 points, including 16 in the first quarter. Andre Emmett also had a strong performance for the D-Fenders, as he finished with 22 points.

Nick VanderLaan grabbed 14 rebounds, to go with his eight points.

"This was a great ball game although we came up short," said D-Fenders head coach Dan Panaggio. "Credit Jawad, he made two tough shots when they needed it."

The Arsenal (23-26) and the D-Fenders (22-26) will continue their battle for the final playoff spot on Thursday afternoon at the STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, tipping off at 3:30 p.m.
