Kevin and Kelly joined the Wildcats last season after playing part of the 2014-2015 year with the London Knights and the Springfield Junior Blues. They were both immediate impact players when they arrived with an offensive talent that came natural to both of them. Kevin has a combined total over the past year and a half of 81 games played, 27 goals, 45 assists for a total of 72 points, while brother Kelly has 93 games played, 38 goals, 35 assists for 73 points. In addition to a first and fourth round pick next year the Wildcats have also acquired forward Julien Tessier. The 18-year-old from St-Marc-des-Carrières Quebec was originally drafted by the Sea Dogs 15th overall in the 2014 QMJHL Entry Draft. He spent the 2014-15 season there, and played in 14 games for the Sea Dogs last season before being moved to Chicoutimi where he played in 9 regular season and four playoff games. This season he is with the Terrebonne Cobras of the QJAAHL, recording 37 points to date in 26 games.
Cameron Askew and Alex Lavoie have been traded to Shawinigan for a 2nd round pick in the 2018 draft, and a 2nd in 2019 as well, along with forward Charles Taillon. This season marked Askew's third with the team, the South Boston forward was a constant presence on the team, and a leader this season with so many of our new players. In the past two a half seasons Cam has recorded an impressive 62 goals, 77 assists for a total of 139 points over 164 games. After playing last season with the Dieppe Commandos this was Alex's first season with Moncton. The 17-year-old from St. Basile N.B. was drafted 55th overall by the Wildcats in the 2015 QMJHL draft and to date has appeared in the lineup for 18 games, registering three points.
Monton's pick-up on this one is 18-year-old winger Charles Taillon from Quebec. He was drafted 26th overall by Shawinigan in 2014 and has since appeared in 94 games for the Cataractes.
"We are committed to building a championship team here in Moncton as a result of that, we have started that process of strategically acquiring high draft picks, and younger players that we can insert into our lineup." said Director of Hockey Operations, Roger Shannon.
"On behalf of the entire Wildcats organization and coaching staff I want to sincerely thank these players for their time with us. These have been our top guys; we had two years in a row with a semi-final appearance and these players all had a significant role in that success."
"Moving forward it is an exciting time for the Wildcats, we have acquired significant draft picks and some great young players. Now is the time to look towards the future, continue their development and determine who we will acquire with these picks this summer in Saint John."
We are expecting to announce more trades today, stay tuned to our website and social media channels for all of the up to date information.
