Moncton Wildcats News Release

MONCTON N.B. - The Moncton Wildcats are committed to the process of building a championship team and have taken steps during this trade period to build a platform for the future of the organization.

The Wildcats have traded defencemen Adam Holwell and Zach Malatesta to the Acadie-Bathurst Titan along with a 7th round pick in 2017. In return Moncton has acquired a 1st and 2nd round pick in 2019, a 2nd and 8th in 2018, a 3rd in 2017, as well as defenceman Francis Thibeault.

Both Adam and Zach have been pillars of this team and the Wildcats organization since they have arrived in Moncton. They are a solid and reliable presence on the blueline and were true leaders, which was evident when both were named assistant captains this year. We wish them nothing but the best as they move forward in this next chapter with the Titan, and want to pass along our sincere thanks for all the work they have done here and the enjoyment they have brought to our fans!

This season marked Adam's fourth in a Wildcat jersey; after being drafted by the team 44th overall in 2013 Adam immediately joined the team that season and has been an instrumental part of the lineup ever since. He has appeared in 229 regular season games with 70 points recorded, Adam has also played and 39 playoff games notching 11 points, with two of those years being semi-final appearances for the team.

Malatesta was in his third season with the team, not only was he a highly skilled defencemen, but his physical presence on the ice was unmatched. Zach has appeared in the lineup for 158 regular season games played, recording 17 goals, 47 assists, for a total of 64 points. Like Adam, Zach was also a part of the team's back-to-back semi-final playoff appearances, playing in 32 games registering 10 points and helping the team to make franchise history.

"The Moncton Wildcats want to sincerely thank both Adam and Zach; two great warriors for our team for many years, and both quality people who have given all they had for the Wildcats," said Director of Hockey Operations, Roger Shannon. "We wish them all the luck in the world and hope they will enjoy the rest of their junior careers in our league with the Titan."

In addition to the picks we have acquired, we also gain defenceman Francis Thibeault from the Titan. This season Francis is playing with the Cambelton Tigers of the MJAHL recording 14 points in 24 games, prior to that he appeared in the Titan lineup last season for 49 of their regular season games. We would like to welcome Francis to Moncton and look forward to seeing him in the lineup for the upcoming second half of the season.
