
Wildcats Start Fast But Fall 5-4 Late

The Wildcats scored four times in the first period but were not able to hang on in a 5-4 loss to the Sherbrooke Phoenix, Friday at Palais des Sports Leopold-Drolet.
Yoan Loshing scored twice for Moncton while Brooklyn Kalmikov added a goal and an assist. Francis Langlois also scored. Vincent Labelle added two assists.
Kalmikov opened the scoring two minutes into the first period, spinning and firing a wrist shot from the right circle the went off the right post and in. Langlois made it 2-0 halfway though the frame, firing a long shot from the right wing boards that beat Phoenix goalie Ivan Zhigalov through his legs.
Zhigalov was replaced after the second goal by Jakob Robillard but the Wildcats continued their attack with a 5-on-3 power play goal with under five minutes remaining in the period.
Loshing whistled a wrist shot from the high slot that beat a screened Robillard to make it a 3-0 game. Loshing's second of the game came on another Moncton power play with under 90 seconds to go in the first, a heavy wrist shot from the right circle that went over Robillard's blocker.
The Wildcats led 4-0 after one period.
Sherbrooke got on the board midway through the second period to cut the deficit to 4-1.
The Phoenix gained momentum more than eight minutes into the third with a 4-on-3 power play marker and a 4-on-4 goal 13 seconds apart. Sherbrooke tied the game with six minutes to go and netted the eventual game-winner with under two-and-a-half minutes left.
Jonathan Lemieux made 30 saves in the loss.
