Wildcats Right On "Q" At Awards Gala

The Moncton Wildcats picked up two major awards and were selected to four all-star positions at the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Awards Gala, held in Montreal on Wednesday.

David Savard was selected as the leagues best defenseman and was awarded the Emile Bouchard Trophy. Savard, 19, the 4th round pick of the Columbus Blue Jackets was the Q's highest scoring defenseman with 77 points. Savard was also named to the leagues first all-star team.

Defenseman Brandon Gormley was presented with the Michael Bossy Trophy which goes to the leagues top professional prospect. Gormley, the 17 year old native of Prince Edward Island had 43 points during the regular season and was also named to the leagues second all-star team.

Also recognized last night was defenseman Mark Barberio and forward Nicolas Deschamps who joined Gormley on the second all-star team.

The Wildcats and the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies open round 2 of the best of 7 QMJHL playoffs with games 1 and 2 in Rouyn-Noranda on Friday and Saturday. Both games will be carried live on news 91.9 the official voice of the Moncton Wildcats starting at 825pm. The series shifts to the Moncton Coliseum for Game 3, presented by Ralley Motors (Tuesday April 6 730pm), Game 4 (Friday April 9, 830pm - NOTE DOORS OPEN 8PM) and game 5 (Saturday April 10, 730pm)

Playoff Tickets are now on sale at the box office (506-857-4100) or on line at The coliseum box office is open today, Thursday until 6pm, tomorrow, Good Friday from 10-6pm, and Saturday from 10-2pm. The Box office will be closed on Easter Sunday and will re-open at 10am Monday.
