
Wildcats Lose Thriller in Shoot-Out

Baie Comeau, PQ - Moncton Wildcats battled back from a 2 - 0 deficit, only to lose in a shoot-out, as the Baie-Comeau Drakkar posted a 5 - 4 victory at the Centre Henry-Leonard on Thursday, before 1,727.
Benjamin Breault (9th,PP, 10th,PP) and Olivier Donais (7th,SH, 8th) each scored a pair of goals in regulation time for the Drakkar, setting the stage for Alexandre Picard-Hooper's game winner in the shoot-out. Replying for the Wildcats were Philippe Dupuis (11th,PP), Adam Pineault (10th), Brad Marchand (17th,PP) and Jerome Samson (6th). Ian Girard added three assists, while defenseman Nathan Welton chipped in with a pair, with single assists coming from Marchand, Andrew MacDonald and Maxime Belanger.
Moncton trailed 1 - 0 after the first period and battled from a 2 - 0 deficit early in the second period, for a 2 - 2 deadlock after 40 minutes. Moncton held a 48 - 37 shot advantage, including 15 - 11 in the second, 18 - 12 in the third and 4 - 2 in the 5-minute sudden-death overtime period. Baie-Comeau held a 12 - 11 advantage in the first period. Loïc Lacasse improved to 10 - 11, as he blocked 44 of 48 shots he faced. J.C. Blanchard allowed four goals on 37 shots to fall to 13 - 4. Baie-Comeau went 3 for 12 on the powerplay and added a short-handed marker, while Moncton was 2 for 11.
The game's three stars were #1 - Loïc Lacasse, #2 - Olivier Donais and #3 - Ian Girard.
Moncton moves to within one point of the Eastern Division leading Acadie-Bathurst Titan with a record of 24 - 9 - 0 - 2 (50 pts) and into sole possession of fourth place overall in the League. Baie-Comeau improves to 13 - 20 - 1 - 0 (27 pts) and move into seventh place in the Western Division and into a tie for 13th overall.
Moncton closes out its pre-Christmas schedule on Friday when they face the Chicoutimi Sagueneens. After a 12-day Christmas break, they travel to St. John's, Newfoundland to face the Fog Devils on December 29th and 30th. Moncton's next home game is against the Saint John Sea Dogs on Friday, January 6th, 2006.
