Moncton, NB - There was a look of wonder and awe on the faces of the Oromocto PeeWee Eagles on Sunday afternoon when they prepared for practice in the dressing room of the Moncton Wildcats of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

The Eagles won a national contest sponsored by Old Dutch Foods asking minor hockey teams in Canada to write an essay about their favorite CHL team and why they would like to practice with them. The PeeWees from Oromocto chose the Moncton Wildcats, won the national contest and on Sunday part of their prize became a reality.

Wildcats General Manager Bill Schurman met the team at the Moncton Coliseum, the Wildcats home rink, took them to the Cats dressing room and introduced them to the Wildcats players and coaching staff. They spent the next hour working out using the same drills as do the Wildcats during their practice sessions.

"We tried to give them the same experience as major junior players have when they practice," said Wildcats Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations, Danny Flynn. "The Wildcats players demonstrated and helped the Eagles participate in the various skill building sessions we use," Coach Flynn added.

The Eagles were very impressed to meet members of the Wildcats team and were especially delighted to learn from the two goaltenders for the Cats, Shane Owen and Nicola Riopel. Riopel was the QMJHL's Most Valuable Player last year and shared some of his experience at the Philadelphia Flyers training camp last September.

Following the hard workout, the Eagles boarded the Wildcats bus and took a short ride to Boston Pizza where they were treated to typical post-game meal.

They'll return to the Coliseum on February 19th when they get to be guests of the Wildcats for a game against the Rimouski Oceanic.
