Wildcats debut special edition jerseys for Pink in the Rink

The Moncton Wildcats will don special edition jerseys this coming weekend to raise awareness of Breast Cancer. The Wildcats are proud to be hosting the first Pink in the Rink night in the QMJHL.

The Moncton Wildcats continue their home stand at the cage to face the Victoriaville Tigers Friday night. They then challenge the new Montreal Juniors Sunday. The Wildcats are yet to face either team this season. Matt Eagles, Scott Brannon and Pierre-Marc Lessard lead the Wildcats in scoring with 12, 11 and 9 points respectively so far this year.

Wildcats winning ways continue

The Moncton Wildcats went wild in the third period scoring 3 goals to down the Shawinigan Cataractes 4-2 on Friday night and up their unbeaten streak to seven games.

A five minute major penalty to Andrew Roski at 5:56 of the opening period set the stage for a pair of power-play goals by Shawinigan. Philippe Paradis scored at 8:19, Houde-Caron and Petersen assisted. Then at 10:54 Cedric Lalonde-McNicoll scored from Lemieux and Vandall for a 2-0 Cataract margin.

Mark Barberio scored on a Wildcat power-play at 9:19 of the second from Pierre-Marc Lessard and Randy Cameron to make it 2-1 after 40 minutes.

Cameron evened the game for Moncton at 4:50 of the third with Lessard and Matt Eagles picking up the helpers, the second power-play goal of the game for the Cats.

Scott Brannon took a pass from Barberio at 6:46 and fired a rocket past Shawinigan goalie Timo Pielmeier to give Moncton a 3-2 lead. New comer Matt Lahey combined with Eagles and Simon Jodoin at 11:22 for the insurance goal the Wildcats needed.

Moncton outshot the visitors 34-22 and with the man advantage went 2 for 9 while Shawinigan was 2 for 6.

Pielmeier was named the games third star, Lessard of the Wildcats picked up second star honors while Mark Barberio with a goal and an assist got the nod as the game's first star.

Sunday October 5 vs Saint John Moncton Coliseum 4:00PM

GAME NOTES:

Sea Dogs bite Cats in OT

Penalties proved costly for the Moncton Wildcats as they lost a 3-2 overtime decision to the Saint John Sea Dogs on Sunday afternoon at the Coliseum.

After a scoreless first period, the Sea Dogs took a 1-0 lead at 2:34 of the second, David Stich and Alex Grant got the assist on the power play counter by Chris DiDomenico. The Wildcats knotted the score with their power play goal when Scott Brannon scored his 7th of the season from Matt Brown and David Savard at 6:42

The Sea Dogs regained the lead at 8:52 of the third with Keven Guerette-Charland getting the goal from Kirkpatrick and Payton Liske. Wildcats captain Matt Eagles with his 4th of the season tied the score at the 18 minute mark, Randy Cameron and Barberio, sending the game into overtime.

Two late third period penalties cost the Cats, Brown was sent off at 18:18 and Barberio at 18:50 gave the Sea Dogs a two man advantage. The Wildcats killed off one in the overtime but could not clear the zone and DiDomenico beat Nicola Riopel for the game winner, 24 seconds into the extra time.

The Sea Dogs outshot Moncton 36-34, on the power-play both teams were 2 for 8. The three stars were DiDomenico the third, Riopel number two and Saint John goaltender Robert Mayer, number one.

GAME NOTES:

The Moncton Wildcats will battle against the Victoriaville Tigers Friday at the Moncton Coliseum. The Tigers are 3rd in the Telus Central Division with 10 points. Dave Nolin leads the Tigers with 4 goals, 7 assists and 11 points in 10 games so far this season.

Sunday October 12th vs Montreal Moncton Coliseum 4:00PM

GAME NOTES:

The Moncton Wildcats will face the Montreal Junoirs. The Juniors are currently 1st in the Telus Western Divison with 10 points. Nick Layton leads the Juniors with 4 goals, 11 assists and 15 points in 8 games so far this season.
