Wildcats Blow by Brahmas in Rout

WICHITA FALLS, Texas - The Wichita Falls Wildcats (11-5-3) posted a season-high nine goals with 14 different players tallying at least one point, as they bashed their way past the Lone Star Brahmas (4-13-1) 9-1 on Friday.
Kyle Bauman and Will Vosejpka each had two goals, Kristaps Bazevics and Nick Farmer both posted a goal and an assist, and Ben Kucera notched four assists in the game to lead the Wichita Falls attack. Newcomer Kirk Van Arkel also found the back of the net for his first point as a Wildcat.
The Wildcats came out of the gates strong and opened the scoring at 5:34 of the first period. Jake Townsend made a nice play to hold the puck in the offensive zone, and played it to Kucera. The Leawood, Kan.-native then found Bazevics in space at the top of the left faceoff circle, who wristed a shot inyo the top corner past a screened Jacob Nehama. It was Bazevics' first goal of the season.
Wichita Falls doubled its advantage less than two minutes later, this time through Van Arkel. Rudy Junda gained the zone on the left-wing wall, danced past a check and rifled a pass through the crease right onto the tape of the onrushing Van Arkel, who put it home to make it 2-0.
The Wildcats picked up right where they left off in the second period, picking up three goals in the middle frame to Lone Star's one to take a 5-1 lead.
First, it was Farmer picking up his fifth goal of the season after Kucera found him alone in front of the net to make it 3-0 at 6:41 of the middle frame. After Matt Lison pulled one back for the Brahmas, Vosejpka restored the Wildcats' three-goal cushion, with Kucera again setting up the goal with a great rush through the Lone Star defense. Bauman wrapped up the scoring in the frame after Matt Koch found him unmarked at the top of the crease for his fifth tally of the campaign.
Wichita Falls was not done there though, tacking on four more goals in the third period to complete the rout.
Bauman picked up his second of the evening unassisted, after rushing coast-to-coast through the Brahmas defense and beating the goalie with his backhand effort. Next, Tyler Ledford joined the offensive party, cleaning up a rebound from Evan Okeley's shot for his second marker of the year to make it 7-1. Vosejpka then scored his second of the game following a nice rush down the left side, before Colin Staub wrapped up the scoring with a power-play goal to make it 9-1 at the 18:02 mark.
The Wildcats and Brahmas will battle again on Saturday, with puck drop scheduled for 7:30 at the NYTEX Sports Center in North Richlands Hills, Texas.
