Washington Wild Things News Release
The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, came away with a 6-5 victory Thursday night at Falconi field in front of a sell-out crowd of 3,231 fans. With the victory over the Kalamazoo Kings, the Wild Things move their record to 12-9.
Much like the previous game between the two teams, the Kings jumped out to the early lead. By the end of the sixth inning the Kings were leading the Wild Things 5-0, but the Kings diddn't hold on to their commanding lead for long, as the Wild Things managed three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Randy McGarvey, Andy Hudak and Matt Swope scored off of a Bruce Baldwin double in the bottom of the seventh to cut the King lead to two. Defense also kept the Wild Things in the game, as demonstrated by Andy Hudack's diving stop at first base to secure the out. The Wild Things furthered their comeback in the bottom of the eighth when short-stop David Reaver hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Chris Carter. The Wild Things stopped the Kings in the top of the ninth and created a chance to win the game in the bottom of the ninth.
To start off the ninth inning come back, Bruce Baldwin hit a one out single and then stole second base. Ryan McGraw was then walked, as the Wild Things had runners on first and second. Lance Koenig advanced Baldwin and McGraw with his single. Chris Carter then stepped up to the plate and hit the game-winning line-drive single to drive in both Baldwin and McGraw. The Wild Things completed their comeback taking the last game in the series 6-5 over the Kalamazoo Kings.
The Wild Things will be on the road starting Friday when they travel to Rockford, Illinois to face the Riverhawks. The game will be carried on Flagship WJPA 95.3 F.M.
