Evansville Otters News Release
Scott Ward scored on a balk in the sixth inning, giving the Evansville Otters their final 3-2 margin of victory and a sweep of a three game series against the Windy City ThunderBolts.
The T-Bolts got on the board first scoring a run in the first on an RBI groundout and went up 2-0 on a double by Jose Gutierrez in the second. Evansville came back with a run in the fourth before Cole Hilt tied it with a double in the fifth.
In the sixth, Terrence McClain singled through the middle to lead things off. Scott Ward then walked. Jud Kindle grounded into a fielder's choice on a sacrifice attempt, forcing McClain at third. However, Steve Ziroli threw a wild pitch to move Ward to third and Kindle to second. After Ricky Clinton grounded out to shortstop against a drawn in infield keeping the runners at their positions, Ziroli touched his hand to his mouth, causing an automatic balk, which moved the runners up a base each, scoring Ward to make it 3-2 Evansville.
Bryan Shartzer (2-0) got the win in relief for Evansville as he came in during the third inning and threw 5.2 innings of scoreless relief. Ryan Burnau came in the ballgame in the ninth for his second save.
The Otters now begin a series against the Gateway Grizzlies on Friday night. Friday is Happy Birthday Bosse Field night. The first 1,000 fans will receive baseball cards depicting Bosse Field through the years. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.
