Rockford RiverHawks News Release

RICHMOND, Ind. - Doug Schutt was not in the starting lineup when the game began at 6:38 p.m. When the game ended at 10:24 p.m., he was Rockford's hero.

Schutt singled home the go-ahead run in the top of the 11th as the RiverHawks (14-7) went on to beat the Roosters 17-13, in 11 innings. The Hawks earned their third sweep of the season and are once again tied with Kalamazoo for first place in the Frontier League's West Division.

With the RBI single, Schutt-who entered the game as a pinch-hitter in the 10th-extended his hitting streak to a career-high 14 games, five short of the team record.

Richmond overcame a 12-5 deficit in the ninth to force extra innings. Four of the Roosters' seven runs in the frame came on one swing of the bat as Joe Cuervo's pinch-hit Grand Slam tied the game at 12.

After the teams traded a run each in the 10th, the Hawks scored four times in the 11th to pull away for good.

The teams combined for eight home runs, five by the Roosters and three by Rockford. Shaff Elkouri, Aaron McEachran, and Ryan Larson all went deep for the Hawks. Richmond catcher Tony Sanguinetti hit a pair of homers in a losing effort.

Jason Glosser (3-1) earned the win in relief while Adam Kroft pitched a hitless 11th to seal the victory.

Sanguinetti and manager Chris Mongiardo were ejected in the 11th inning for arguing balls and strikes. It marks the second straight night a manager was tossed as Rockford skipper Mike Young was ejected in the third inning of Wednesday's game.

Despite blowing three different leads, the Hawks never trailed in the game. The 17 runs for Rockford is a new season high and 21 hits ties a season high. The Hawks are now 3-1 in extra-inning games.

The RiverHawks return to Marinelli Field for a nine-game, 10-day homestand beginning with Axberg Heating and Air/Continental Coupons Koozie Night at 7:05 p.m. Friday, against Washington. The RiverHawks are the defending champions of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league in its 13th season. All games are broadcasted live on WRHL-FM, 102.3 - the Hub.
