Rockford RiverHawks News Release

RICHMOND, Ind. - The game was as messy as the weather. The Hawks and Roosters played seven innings before a 54-minute rain delay and played five innings after it. In the end, Rockford was victorious 10-9.

The RiverHawks rallied for the go-ahead run in the top of the 12th as Ryan Larson scored from second base on a ground ball that was misplayed by Richmond second baseman Hector Urena. The batter, Doug Schutt-whose hitting streak is now at a career-high 13 games, was credited with a single but no RBI as Urena was charged with an error, allowing the runner to come home.

The RiverHawks' bullpen provided five innings of two-hit relief as Derrick Ellison (2-2) picked up the win and Jason Glosser earned his second save.

Rockford trailed 6-1 after three innings but put up five runs in the sixth to take a 9-7 lead. The big blow of the inning was a Grand Slam by John Chappell, his third home run of the season and his only hit of the night.

Gooby Gerlits added his team-leading sixth homer of the year and Shaff Elkouri continued to heat up with his second home run of the season. Both were solo shots. All three home runs were off Richmond starter Matt Schweitzer, who went 5 1/3 innings and gave up nine runs, all earned, on 13 hits. His counterpart, Rockford starter Derek Roper, went seven innings, allowing eight runs, seven earned, on 11 hits.

In his first game as a RiverHawk, infielder Todd Dulaney had four singles in a 4-6 night with a run scored.

The Hawks are now 2-1 in extra-inning games.

The RiverHawks look for the sweep in Richmond, beginning at 6:35 p.m. Thursday. They're back home for nine games, beginning with Axberg Heating and Air/Continental Coupons Koozie Night at 7:05 p.m. Friday. The RiverHawks are the defending champions of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league in its 13th season. All games are broadcasted live on WRHL-FM, 102.3 - the Hub
