
Wild Things Take Game One of Doubleheader, 11-2

Washington, PA-The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, kicked off game one of their doubleheader today by beating the Lake Erie Crushers, 11-2.
The Wild Things attacked first, scoring three runs in the bottom of the third inning. A ground out by right fielder Luis Rivera drove in center fielder Allan Boyer. A double to deep left center field by second baseman Shain Stoner brought shortstop Michael Mooney and left fielder Doug Thennis into home.
The Crushers attempted to close the gap and made it 3-2 going into the bottom of the fifth, but an error on Lake Erie catcher allowed Boyer to make it 4-2.
Washington added to their lead in the bottom of the sixth with another three runs. A double by first baseman Michael Bando drove in Nick Santomauro, and catcher Chris Anderson hit a two-run home run over the left field fence to bring in Bando.
A single by Santomauro drove in Stoner in the bottom of the seventh to make it an 8-2 game. The teams decided to play the bottom of the ninth inning, and three more runs were added by the Wild Things.
Jhonny Montoya started on the mound for Washington and lasted four innings. He allowed one unearned run and three hits, while walking one batter and striking out two more.
Lake Erie starting pitcher Randy Sturgill spent four innings on the mound. He allowed three runs (all earned) on four hits.
The Wild Things finish their double header against Lake Erie tonight at 7:05 p.m. There will be a special fireworks display after the game. Tickets are available and can be purchased by visiting the CONSOL Energy Park box office, www.washingtonwildthings.com, or by calling 866-456-WILD.
