Evansville Otters News Release
(EVANSVILLE, Indiana) endash In the 8th annual Exhibition Game Benefitting Jacob's Village, the Evansville Otters raised well over $20,000 for charity and also beat the Southern Illinois Miners 8-1 at Historic Bosse Field.
A Jacob's Village record crowd of 2,192 fans attended the game as the Evansville Otters have now raised over $120,00 during this annual traditional event.
The Otters (3-0-1) initially trailed by a run but quickly came back to tie the game in the bottom of the third inning.
Then in the fourth, the Evansville offense took control for good. The Otters rallied to score three runs during the inning including an RBI double from Nick Farnsworth and a pair of sacrifice flies.
Ahead 4-1, the Otters offense continued to take advantage of Southern Illinois' pitching. Evansville added two more runs on a Sergio Mirandi double to right field and RBI singles from both Farnsworth and Ryde Rodriguez.
It was not only the offense, however, as the Evansville pitching staff also had another impressive performance. Starting pitcher Bryce Morrow collected three strikeouts in as many innings and the Otters only allowed five total hits on the night.
Sergio Miranda, Ryde Rodriguez, and Nick Farnsworth all had two hits each in the game and also combined for a handful of runs batted in.
After the game, hundreds of women then poured on to the playing surface at Historic Bosse Field for a Diamond Dig. All women 18 years and older were invited to participate and search for a diamond worth a $1,000 shopping spree at Tracy Zeller Jewelry.
Opening Day for the Otters at historic Bosse Field is Friday, May 18, 2012, when Evansville hosts the Washington Wild Things. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. CDT, and season tickets are on sale now.
