Washington, PA – The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, announced the signing of infielder Brian Stoecklein.

Stoecklein, a Cranberry Twp, PA native, played last season with the Atlanta Braves Gulf Coast Rookie League in Orlando, FL after a stellar career at California University of Pennsylvania. Stoecklein's senior year saw him named a PSAC West 1st team infielder and a North Atlantic Region 1st team infielder, which were the second time he's received both honors at Cal U. For the season, Stoecklein led the PSAC in hitting with a .409 batting average and was 1st in the PSAC with a .702 slugging percentage. He also pounded out 28 doubles, tied for 2nd in the NCAA, 3 triples, 8 home runs and 56 RBI. While at Cal U, Stoecklein set single season school records with 198 at bats, 81 hits, and 28 doubles. During his college career, Stoecklein was a member of 3 PSAC Playoff teams and 2 PSAC West Champions.

With the Braves Gulf Coast Rookie League, Stoecklein hit .263 in 44 games, with 4 doubles, 1 triple 1 home run and 13 RBI. Highlights for the season include going 3 for 3 on July 12 against the Florida Marlins with a triple and 2 RBI and hitting 1 for 2 against the Montreal Expos on July 15, raising his average to a season high .289.

"We are certainly familiar with Brian since Cal U plays its games at Falconi Field," states Ross Vecchio, general manager of the Wild Things. "He is someone who has hit wherever he's been and he's always gotten better as the season progressed. We see him being able to play a variety of positions. He will see plenty of at-bats and we are glad to have him on board."

Additionally he hit in 11 of his final 18 games with the Braves, from July 31 to August 24, batting .305 during that span. Stoecklein hit .275 in July and .291 in August.

The Wild Things open the season at home on May 21st against the Kalamazoo Kings. Individual tickets go on sale April 24 at Falconi Field.
