Washington Wild Things News Release

Washington, PA -- The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, will host its inaugural Winner's Day at The Park on May 14th.

"This is one of the neatest programs a team can participate in," said Ross Vecchio, general manager for the Wild Things. "I've been involved in a number of similar programs at other ballparks, and I can honestly say it's the best thing I have ever seen teams do."

Winner's Day at The Park encourages youngsters to be winners by choosing appropriate lifestyles: avoiding drugs, eating properly, exercising, being conscious of the environment and preserving our earth, among other things.

Members of the Wild Things' team will begin visiting elementary/middle schools in the area to visit with students. During the assemblies, the players will discuss their own personal experiences and how their decisions affected their athletic careers. Then on May 14th, the students will visit Falconi Field to enjoy a special exhibition game played just for them. The Wild Things and the Chillicothe Paints will face off with an 11 a.m. game.

"It's amazing," said Vecchio. You'll know which player visited which school when you sit at the game. The kids will go wild when the player who visited their school bats! It never fails."

Schools throughout Washington and Allegheny County have been invited to participate in the program. About 1,500 students are expected to travel to Falconi Field for the game, lunch, and pre-game activities on the 14th. The program is free to the students.

The Wild Things will play their second exhibition game that same evening when Falconi Field will open up for the public. The team opens their season at home on May 21st when they face the Kings from Kalamazoo Michigan. Some tickets are still available.
