Washington Wild Things News Release

Washington, Pa – The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, drafted two players from the Frontier League's Try Out Wednesday.

The Wild Things selected OF Jack Headley with the 11th pick in the first round. Headley was signed by the Philadelphia Phillies in June 2003 as a non-drafted free agent out of Santa Clara University where he hit .335 with 17 doubles and 19 stolen bases. With Batavia of the New York Penn League, he hit .272 in 48 games with six doubles, four triples, and 10 stolen bases.

In the third round the Wild Things selected 1B/OF Mike Rapacioli. Rapacioli played for St. Bonaventure University where he was the Bonnies all time leader in home runs (31) while holding a career high batting average of .348. During his senior year, Rapacioli was named a 2003 American Baseball Coaches Association All-Northeast Region second team selection, batting a team high .355 with eight home runs, 14 doubles and 40 RBI.

Both players agreed to contracts with The Wild Things.

The Wild Things did not select in the second round of the draft as that pick was traded to Mid Missouri in the Grant Dorn trade.

"We signed these guys for their offensive capabilities," said John Massarelli, field manager for the Wild Things. "They have two weeks to show us what they can do with their bats."

Both Rapacioli and Headley will report to training camp at Falconi Field this Friday, May 7th. The Wild Things open the Frontier League season at home versus the Kalamazoo Kings on Friday, May 21st. Limited tickets are still available for the home opener.
