Washington Wild Things News Release
FLORENCE, Ky - The Washington Wild Things had won back-to-back games coming into a series with the defending West Division Champion Florence Freedom this week. The series opener, however, went to the host Freedom, as Florence's pitching staff held the Wild Things to just two runs on seven hits, and took the game Tuesday by a final of 6-2.
Florence (22-23) got two runs in the third and two in the fifth against Washington starter Trevor Bradley, who got tagged with the loss after five innings of four-run ball. Bradley is now 2-2 on the season. His mound counterpart, Chuck Weaver allowed a two-run double too Washington designated hitter Jordan Edgerton in the seventh before he was lifted, on his way to a win. The double was one of the only blemishes against Weaver Tuesday.
Washington (27-19) pitchers allowed solo shots to Skyler Ewing and Ricky Ramirez, which padded the Florence lead to 6-2 late in the game, before Washington went down in order in the ninth to close the game.
The Wild Things were led by Hector Roa, who played right field and went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Despite the loss, the Wild Things are still in first place. As of this writing, both Lake Erie and Joliet, who entered the night two games back of Washington, were losing in their respective games. The two teams meet again tomorrow in the middle game of the series on the Fourth of July. First pitch is slated for 6:35 p.m. from UC Health Stadium.
