Wild Things drop game three to Paints

The Washington Wild Things (57-27), presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, dropped the third and final game of their series against the Chillicothe Paints by a score of 9-4 at Falconi Field Wednesday. The loss ends an 11 game win streak for the Wild Things, but despite their loss, the team is the first to clinch a spot in the 2005 Frontier League Playoffs.

Chillicothe took an early lead in this game, scoring in the first inning. Steven Martin doubled down the right field line, driving in John Ramistella. Juan Downing singled, driving in Martin.

But the Wild Things answered in the bottom of the first when Mike Arbinger drove in Chris Sidick.

Washington tied it up in the third inning when Lance Koenig stole home to score.

In the fourth inning Chillicothe regained their two run lead when Brian Hipps hit a home run to right field, driving in Doug Dreher.

Washington answered with another run in the bottom of the fourth when Sidick drove in Andy Hudak.

In the sixth inning Chillicothe scored five runs. Josh Ury scored an unearned run when Brian Colopy singled to second base. Martin hit a grand slam taking the score to 9-3.

In the eighth inning The Wild Things attempted a comeback, but fell short. Robert Morgan scored when, with the bases loaded, Pitcher Marshall Plouffe walked Mike Arbinger.

Brian Burks (10-3) took the loss, pitching 5.2 innings, allowing 10 hits, nine runs (four earned), walking four and striking out two. Mike Grady pitched 3.1 innings in relief, allowing only one hit and striking out two.

The Florence Freedom's 11-3 victory over the Evansville Otters Wednesday guaranteed the Wild Things a 2005 playoff berth.

The Wild Things travel to Richmond for a three game set Thursday when first pitch is scheduled for 7:35 p.m. Eastern time. WJPA 95.3 FM and www.msasports.net will carry the action beginning at 7:25 p.m. The Wild Things return home to Falconi Field Sunday when they will host the Evansville Otters.
