Martin blanks RiverHawks, 7-0

ROCKFORD, Ill. - Josh Martin was nearly unhittable.

The Kalamazoo right-hander pitched a four-hitter as he shut out the Rockford RiverHawks, 7-0. The visiting Kings took two of three at Marinelli Field and lead the RiverHawks by a game in the Frontier League West Division.

Martin (2-0) struck out eight without a walk. After surrendering a one-out single to Ashley Farr in the second inning, Martin retired 18 in a row. He struck out five straight batters in the fourth and fifth innings.

Kalamazoo scored twice off Rockford starter Luke Lambo in the first inning and led all the way. Justin McClain singled in two with a two-out bloop single in the first inning and made it 5-0 with a RBI double to left in the fifth.

Lambo (0-2) struck out six, but was touched for 10 hits.

The RiverHawks host Gateway in a five-game, three-night series that begins with a doubleheader at 6:05 p.m. on Thirsty Thursday. It's 14 innings of Miller Lite Dollar Beer Night.

The RiverHawks are the defending champions of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league in its 13th season. All games are broadcasted live on WRHL-FM, 102.3 - the Hub.
