York Revolution News Release
(York, Pa.) - Three solo home runs and five solid Frank Gailey innings gave the York Revolution a 5-3 win over the Lancaster Barnstormers on Friday night at PeoplesBank Park. The win pulls the Revs (26-16) within a game of tying the Barnstormers (21-19) in the War of the Roses presented by PNC Bank. Lancaster leads the season series 3-2.
Frank Gailey (2-0) made the transition from the bullpen to the rotation nicely, allowing two runs on eight hits in five innings for the win. He walked two, hit a batter, and struck out two on 90 pitches.
Tanner Peters (1-2) took a hard-luck loss after allowing three runs on eight hits in five innings. Mike DeMark earned his 14th save, this one of a four-out variety.
After Lancaster's Josh Whitaker broke the ice with a solo home run in the top of the second, York responded with two in its half of the inning. Bryan Pounds and Josh Wilson reached on a walk and an infield single, respectively. With two outs, Jason Repko blooped a single over the second baseman's head to score Pounds, then Isaias Tejeda slashed an RBI single to make it 2-1.
Gailey worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the fourth inning, and Josh Wilson rewarded him with a majestic solo homer over the Nemesis to give him a 3-1 cushion.
Caleb Gindl sparked a Barnstormer rally in the fifth with a two-out single, later coming home on a Whitaker double. Gailey would buckle down to strike out Josh Bell on eight pitches to strand the tying run on second.
Ron Schreurs and Ricardo Gomez combined to sit the Barnstormers down in the sixth and seventh, and Alfredo Marte provided insurance with a massive solo shot over the Nemesis in the bottom of the seventh.
The Barnstormers made it interesting with a walk and a Mike McDade RBI double in the eighth, but Mariel Checo struck out Chase Patterson for the second out of the inning before handing it off to Mike DeMark, who fanned Lance Zawadzki to strand the tying man in scoring position.
James Simmons got the run back in the bottom of the eighth with a solo homer to right center, giving the game its final margin. DeMark worked around a single and an error in the top of the ninth to secure the victory.
Tejeda led the way on offense, going 3-for-5 with a double, RBI, and stolen base. Wilson added a single and a run to his solo shot. Repko went 1-for-4 with the RBI and a walk in his return from the disabled list.
Whitaker paced the Barnstormer attack, going 3-for-5 with a double, home run, and two RBIs. Gindl and Witherspoon also had two hits.
