Wild Things Drop Game 1 of Series to Schaumburg 13-4

WASHINGTON, Pa. - The Schaumburg Boomers set a season high for hits and runs, collecting 21 hits in their 13-4 rout of the Washington Wild Things on Friday. Eight of the Boomers' starting nine players collected multi-hit performances in the contest. Despite the loss, Washington remains tied for first in the East Division due to a loss tonight by Lake Erie.

Schaumburg's offense started off hot in the top of the first inning, sending 11 batters to the plate and scoring five runs.

Schaumburg (23-19) extended what was an already commanding lead in the top of the third, plating four more runs, to push the advantage to 9-0.

Washington (25-18) cracked the scoreboard in the bottom of the third inning, as left fielder Roman Collins brought in shortstop Brett Marr on an RBI single through the right side.

Washington went scoreless in the fourth, but then sent eight batters to the plate and scored three runs in the fifth inning to cut the deficit to 9-4.

Center fielder James Harris walked to start the inning and then was brought in by second baseman Carter McEachern the next at-bat on an RBI double, making the score 9-2. First baseman Reydel Medina drove in McEachern three batters later on an RBI single, while right fielder Hector Roa hit a sacrifice fly to right field to bring in Collins to make it a 9-4 game and finish the Washington scoring.

The contest featured three-consecutive scoreless innings from frames five through eight, but Schaumburg would plate four more runs in the ninth, to bring the game to its final score of 13-4.

Mitch Schulewitz (3-0) collected his third victory of the season for Schaumburg. He threw three complete innings in relief while not allowing a run. He gave up three hits, walked one and struck out two.

Chase Cunningham (2-3) was tagged with his third loss of the season and struggled in his 2.2 innings of work. He allowed nine runs, all earned, 13 hits, walked one batter and struck out one.

Ty Moore helped lead the Boomers offensively, going 3-5 with four RBI. Kenny Towns was a big contributor in the victory as well, going 3-6 with five RBI, a double and a run scored. Collin Ferguson added two RBI for Schaumburg.

Washington was led by McEachern and Collins who both had two hits and an RBI each. Medina and Roa also added one hit and one RBI each while designated hitter Jordan Edgerton had two hits.

Washington and Schaumburg will meet again tomorrow night at 7:05 at Wild Things Park for game two of the three-game set.
