Washington Wild Things News Release
The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, broke out the bats and used a good performance by starting pitcher Ryan Ewin to defeat the Chillicothe Paints, 10-1, at chilly V.A. Memorial Stadium, Tuesday night.
Ewin (6-2) gave up one run and seven hits through six innings of work while his mound opponent, Jeff Hunter, struggled against the Wild Things' lineup. Hunter (2-4) pitched three innings, giving up six runs and five hits while walking four.
Chillicothe pitchers struggled with their command, issuing almost as many free-passes (10) as hits (13).
Washington (37-22) jumped on Hunter in the first, using three hits and two walks to go up early. Chillicothe (29-34) answered in the bottom half of the first, scoring one run, but failed to score the rest of the game.
Jon Cahill gave the Wild Things a comfortable lead in the third with a three-run homer, his fifth of the year. Cahill finished the game 2-for-4 with four RBI and a run scored. Washington added a run in the fourth and fifth innings and two runs in the ninth.
The Wild Things return to Falconi Field Wednesday for a three-game series against the Kalamazoo Kings, who sit a half-game behind Washington in the East Division standings. Tomorrow at 7:05 p.m., Washington will send Matt Powell (6-1, 3.46 ERA) to the hill.
