Kings come from behind, sweep Otters

July 27, 2004 - Frontier League (FL)
Kalamazoo Kings News Release

Kalamazoo, MI– Pete Pirman doubled with the bases loaded in the ninth, scoring two runs as the Kalamazoo Kings completed a come from behind victory 12-11 to sweep the Evansville Otters.

The Kings got on the board first on a Darren Uranga homer. The Otters quickly erased the lead with a pair of two-run bombs off the bats of Steve Martin and Carlos Brackley making it a 4-1 Evansville advantage.

After the Kings tied it in the bottom of the fourth, the Otters scored four in the fifth and two in the sixth to go up 10-4. However, Kalamazoo scored five runs in the sixth and plated one on a wild pitch in the seventh to tie the game at 10.

It looked like the game would go the Otters way as Evansville scored a run in the eighth to take an 11-10 lead. It was not to be, however, as the Kings loaded the bases with one out against the usually reliable A. J. Ampi before Pirman's double scored the winning runs.

Justin Garcia will take the mound for Evansville on Wednesday as the Otters start a three game set against the Florence Freedom. Wednesday is Christmas in July night presented by Holiday World and Yellow Book USA. Passes to Holiday World will be distributed to lucky fans during the game. For more information, the Otters can be reached at 435-8686.
