April 19, 2016 - California League (CalL1)
Modesto Nuts News Release
Modesto, CA. - In another resilient performance by the Modesto Nuts, Dom Nunez scored from third on a wild pitch to sink the Blaze 3-2 in 15 innings on Monday night at John Thurman Field.
With Isaac Sanchez (L, 1-1) on the mound for the Blaze (3-8), Dom Nunez led the inning off with a single. He was sacrificed to second on a Drew Weeks wild pitch. With Collin Ferguson batting, Nunez took third on a wild pitch. After Ferguson struck out, Sanchez threw a second wild pitch to bring Nunez in for the game-winning run and the Nuts' (5-6) second walk-off win in a row.
The Blaze had taken the lead in the 14th on a Tyler Marlette solo home run but Forrest Wall, the league's leader in RBI, plated Omar Carrizales on a sac fly.
All the other offense came early. The Blaze took a first-inning lead when Chantz Mack singled in a run off Nuts starter Yency Almonte. Almonte went five innings while striking out seven and giving up four hits with two walks.
The Nuts staff did not allow another run until the 14th. Craig Schlitter (W, 1-0) allowed that solo home run but limited the damage after that and worked around two errors with three strike outs.
Game two of the three-game series with the Blaze begins at 7:05 p.m. on Tuesday night. Coverage onModestoNuts.com will start at 7:00 p.m.
