LANCASTER, Calif. - Jose Fernandez tallied three hits, two stolen bases, and two runs scored for the Lancaster JetHawks, but they could not overcome Kyle Garlick's three home runs, as the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes took the series opener on Monday night at The Hangar, 12-5.

The second of Garlick's long balls was an inside the park home run that highlighted a four-run fifth inning for the Quakes (8-4). They put up another four spot in the eighth to break open the game. Rancho Cucamonga hit five home runs in the contest. Michael Ahmed and Yusniel Diaz also went deep for the Quakes.

The JetHawks (4-5) took an early lead with a pair of runs in the opening inning. Bobby Boyd led off with a single, stole second, and later came home on a sacrifice-fly by Garrett Stubbs. The second run came in on a balk.

After the Quakes tied the game with single runs in the second and third, the JetHawks took the lead again in the fourth. Fernandez led off with a single and stole second. Boyd followed with an RBI single.

Rancho's four-run fifth made it 6-3. The JetHawks crept closer with single tallies in the sixth and seventh, but that's as close as they would get. After their four-run eighth, the Quakes tacked on two more runs in the ninth, both coming on solo homers.

Nick Tanielu hit his first triple of the season for Lancaster to lead off the seventh and later scored, one of two hits for him on the night. The JetHawks were out-hit 14-11 in the game.

Bubby Rossman (1-0) picked up the win in relief for the Quakes. Scott Weathersby (0-1) took the loss for Lancaster.

The JetHawks and Quakes continue their three-game series tomorrow night at The Hangar. Evan Grills (0-0) will start for Lancaster against Grant Holmes (1-0). First pitch is at 6:35 p.m.

The JetHawks are celebrating their 20th anniversary season in Lancaster. Great ticket packages and group events are on sale now at jethawks.com or by calling (661) 726-5400.
