San Jose Giants News Release

LAKE ELSINORE, CA - The San Jose Giants were shutout for the second time in the last three games after a 1-0 loss to the Lake Elsinore Storm on Monday evening at The Diamond. Three Storm pitchers combined on a five-hitter as Lake Elsinore claimed the opener of the three-game series. With the defeat, the Giants' record dropped to 4-5.

Jordan Johnson (1-1) suffered a hard-luck loss for San Jose after throwing a career-high seven innings. Johnson allowed just one run and four hits during his outing. The right-hander walked two and struck out two.

Storm starting pitcher Dinelson Lamet (2-0) fired six scoreless innings to pick-up the win. Lamet surrendered three hits with one walk and three strikeouts. Jose Torres pitched the seventh inning for Lake Elsinore before Yimmi Brasoban recorded a six-out save.

The Giants threatened in the top of the first against Lamet as C.J Hinojosa ripped a two-out double into the right center field gap. Lamet though recovered to set down the next hitter, Chris Shaw, on a groundout to end the inning.

In the top of the fourth, San Jose put runners on first and third with one out, but failed to score. Hinojosa walked to start the rally and then advanced to third when Shaw singled to left. Lamat though induced Aramis Garcia to pop out to shortstop before Steven Duggar lined out to right to keep the game scoreless.

The only run of the contest came in the bottom of the fourth. Luis Urias led off the frame for Lake Elsinore with a double to deep right center. Javier Guerra then lined a single off the high 36 foot wall in right as Urias raced home to give the Storm a 1-0 lead.

Johnson was able to limit the damage in the fourth inning before setting down Lake Elsinore in order in the fifth - his third 1-2-3 inning of the night. Johnson then pitched around a one-out walk in the sixth and a leadoff walk in the bottom of the seventh to keep the deficit at one run.

The Giants though managed only three baserunners after the fourth inning. Lamet finished his night by retiring eight consecutive San Jose hitters. In the top of the seventh with Torres pitching, Garcia singled to right with one out, but was immediately erased when the next hitter, Duggar, grounded into a double play.

Brasoban then entered from the Storm bullpen to begin the top of the eighth and needed just seven pitches to retire San Jose 1-2-3 in his first inning of work. In the ninth, Johneshwy Fargas led off with a single, but was promptly picked-off at first base. Ronnie Jebavy then hit a grounder to shortstop that was thrown away by Guerra for a two-base error. The miscue allowed the potential tying run for the Giants to move into scoring position. Hinojosa followed by grounding out for the second out of the inning as Jebavy advanced to third. Shaw was up next, but on the seventh pitch of the at-bat, he grounded out as the second baseman Urias moved into the hole on the right side to field the ball and threw to the pitcher covering at first to end the game.

The save was Brosoban's league-leading fourth of the season.
