Wenatchee Wild News Release

BLAINE, Minn. - The Wenatchee Wild scored three third-period goals Friday to defeat the Michigan Warriors 3-0 during the third day of competition at the NAHL Showcase Tournament at the Schwan Super Rink in Blaine, Minn. The win was Wenatchee's third straight at the tournament.

After 40 minutes of scoreless play, Nicholas Kuchera (Eagan, Minn.) scored the Wild's first goal of the game 81 seconds into the third period from a sharp angle as he skated in on net from the right wing. Chris Kerr (Penticton, British Columbia) and Chris Knudson (North Barrington, Ill.) assisted.

Wenatchee doubled its lead five minutes later on Trace Redmond's (Dallas, Texas) goal. Blake Roubos (Niagara Falls, Canada) set up the goal when he forced a turnover at the Michigan blue line, then utilized a saucer pass to Redmond, who was crashing the net from the right side.

Evan Schmidbauer (Surrey, British Columbia) made it a 3-0 game 8:43 into the third stanza when he scored from the backdoor during a 3-on-2 rush into the Warriors zone. Redmond picked up the lone assist.

Evan McCarthy (Castle Rock, Col.), who was making his first start in net for the Wild, earned a shutout after stopping all 19 shots he faced. McCarthy stoned Michigan's Jimmy Peplinski on a breakaway in the first period and kept the puck out of the net during four power plays, one of which was a 5-minute major. Trevor Gorsuch made 24 saves on 27 shots for the Warriors.

Wenatchee went 0-for-5 on its power play chances. Redmond led the Wild with a goal and an assist.

The Wild (3-0) will try to finish the NAHL Showcase Tournament with a perfect 4-0 record Saturday when they square off against the Brookings Blizzard. The game is scheduled to begin at 4:45 p.m. For a small fee, fans can watch the entire game live by logging on to www.FASTHockey.com.
