Comeback Win Falls Short in a Shootout 3-2

BLAINE, MN - The Corpus Christi IceRays, for the second day in a row came back from a 2-0 deficit to force overtime, only to fall this time in a shootout 3-2 to the Austin Bruins.

Austin started the scoring just 28 seconds in as John Simonson put the Bruins up as he beat IceRays goaltender Dillon Kelley for a 1-0 lead.

Corpus Christi had a power-play opportunity however, it was Austin capitalizing. On a short-handed rush, CJ Smith beat Kelley top shelf for a 2-0 advantage 17:11 into the first period.

In the second, the IceRays converted on the man advantage. Chris Stovall rocketed a wrister past Nicholas Lehr 4:23 into the middle frame assisted by John Roisum.

The IceRays trailed 2-1 after two periods, and in the third Brandon Smith scooped up a rebound just 24 seconds in and completed the two goal comeback that forced overtime and eventually a shootout.

In the shootout, Corpus Christi held a 2-0 lead, but Austin stormed back to take the extra point and the win, 3-2. The IceRays outshot the Bruins 21 to 10.
