Bulls Drop 2-1 Decision in Shootout to Port Huron
September 14, 2012 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Amarillo Bulls News Release
BLAINE, MN - It was another tough day at the office for the Amarillo Bulls at the North American Hockey League Showcase on Friday afternoon in Blaine, Minnesota.
The Bulls fired 36 shots on goal and managed just one goal in a 2-1 shootout loss to the Port Huron Fighting Falcons. The loss dropped the Bulls record to 1-1-1 with one game remaining tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon at 12:15 pm against the Springfield Jr. Blues.
"We are a better hockey team than that, and we need to do a better job at finishing our opportunities as well as sticking to the plan," said Bulls Head Coach Dennis Williams. "We turned over the puck way too much with lazy plays. We have to be able to battle and compete hard for 60 minutes to close out games. We don't like to give up leads. We want to be known as a good third period team. It is something we need to work on to see if we can find the right mix of guys."
It was a fast start to the game for Amarillo, firing 13 first period shots and finding the back of the net once. Omar Mullan fired a shot in the top corner to give the Bulls a 1-0 advantage. After that, Max Milosek for Port Huron prevented the Bulls from getting anything else by him.
At the other end of the rink, Paul Berrafato was solid in net for the Bulls keeping his team in front until the final eight minutes of regulation time when Port Huron collected the equalizer. In the closing minutes of the third period, Amarillo threw everything they had at Milosek, but were denied. TJ Sarcona had the best chance when he just missed at the side of the net
In the shootout, Easton Powers of the Fighting Falcons scored the lone goal. All five Amarillo Bulls' players were thwarted by Milosek.
The Amarillo Bulls can finish the NAHL Showcase above .500 with a victory over the Springfield Jr. Blues on Saturday afternoon. Fans can tune into the game live on ESPN1440, www.amarillobulls.com and on PPV courtesy of Fast Hockey, beginning at Noon. Join Denis J. Puska for the exciting call at 12:15 pm.
Hockey returns to the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center on Saturday, Sept 29 when the Amarillo Bulls entertain the Odessa Jackalopes at 7 pm. For the 2nd straight year more banners will be raised to celebrate a terrific 2011-2012 season. For further information on ticket packages, please call the Bulls Office at 806-242-1122.
