Wild Freeze IceRays with 4-1 Final

January 17, 2015 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Wenatchee Wild News Release

In their first home game of 2015, the Wenatchee Wild have claimed a 4-1 win over the visiting Corpus Christi Ice Rays. With help from an ever faithful 3,518 fans, the Wild were able to pick up the first two available points and were sent confidentially into Game Two. Corpus Christi put up a well-muscled fight, but when looking at Wenatchee, home ice and a home crowd were some of the major determining factors. Brendan Harris, Zach Quinn, and Ryan Chiasson were each awarded with the title of Star of the Game.

There was no scoring the first period of this game, but it would be Brendan Harris who would strike first, four minutes and seven seconds into the middle frame. Harris received help from Chris Jones and Kyle Stephan. At the 14:14 minute mark, Harris put Wenatchee on a 2-0 lead with a power play goal that was assisted by Dan Bailey and Mitch Demario. Roughly a minute later, Ryan Chiasson gave Wenatchee their third point of the night. This point also happened to be a power play goal and it would be one that was assisted by both Mike Coyne and August Von Ungern-Sternberg. Corpus Christi would have their first, yet final, point on the board seventeen minutes and fifty six seconds into the period. Matt Colford was responsible for the Ice Rays' only goal for this game and he was able to score this point with help he received from Anthony Cortese and Nic Laburn.

The final goal of the game was scored at the 6:55 mark of the third period. Harris would score his hat trick with a short handed goal, but more importantly, he was able to give his team the 4-1 win. The final assist was recorded by Jake Ahlgren.

Wenatchee was able to out shoot the Ice Rays 35-15 and was also able to go 2 for 5 on the power play. The Wild were called on 7 infractions and penalties went to Donovan Ott (Checking from Behind) (Tripping), Chris Jones (Fighting (Major)), (Fighting (Misconduct)), Andre Pison (Checking from Behind), Kyle Stephan (Hooking), and Ryan Gotelaere (Holding).

Zach Quinn was in net for the Wild for 59:14 minutes, and during that time, he saved 14 shots on goal out of 15.

To quote Coach Littler, "All the way around it was a good effort for us. Big challenge to back it up tomorrow against a very good Ice Rays team."

The Wild will be back tomorrow night, January 17th, with a 7:05 pm PST puck drop. This is the last home game of the month so make sure you don't miss out!
