Corpus Christi IceRays News Release

WENATCHEE, WASH. - The Corpus Christi IceRays (18-12-5) conceded three goals on special teams and a hat trick as they fell 4-1 to the Wenatchee Wild (15-17-6) on Friday night from Town Toyota Center. The hat trick is the first allowed by the IceRays since Feb. 23, 2014, and their 15 shots is lowest total of the season.

After the scoring was halted in the first period, the Wild slowly picked apart the IceRays in the second frame. At 4:05, Wild defenseman Chris Jones took a shot from the left point that redirected off IceRays defenseman Logan Gestro into the net. The goal was credited to forward Brendan Harris and gave the Wild a 1-0 lead. Special teams became a factor later in the period. The IceRays were called on consecutive penalties, and the Wild capitalized on each attempt. Harris tallied his second goal of the game at 14:14 from the right wing, and defenseman Ryan Chiasson found an open puck in the slot at 15:33 to increase the lead, 3-0. The IceRays did answer late in the period as forward Matt Colford placed a second chance effort into the net to cut the lead to 3-1 heading into the second intermission.

The third period added one more goal for the home side. After Harris was denied on a shorthanded breakaway, he was able to chorale the puck and flip it in to claim his third goal of the night at 6:55 and help seal the victory, 4-1. The Wild outshot the IceRays 35-15 throughout the contest and held Corpus Christi to six shots or less in each period.

Wild goaltender Zach Quinn (11-12-3) earned the win, turning aside 14 of 15 shots, while IceRays netminder Luke Pickar (5-5-2) picked up the loss, saving 31 of 35 shots. The IceRays close out the season series against the Wenatchee Wild on Saturday, January 17 at 9:05 p.m. CST. Coverage begins at 8:50 p.m. CST on KSIX (1230 AM, 96.1 FM, & 103.3 FM) and FASTHockey.com.
