Tulsa Oilers News Release

The Tulsa Oilers and Wichita Thunder played 57 minutes and 59 seconds scoring just three goals between them, then scored three goals in 42 seconds before the Oilers prevailed 4-3 in a shootout Saturday night in Wichita.

Derek Eastman put the Oilers on top with the only goal of the first period which was matched by Wichita's Brandon Kaleniecki shorthanded goal in the second period.

Tyler Butler put the Oilers back on top with a power play goal with seven and ahalf minutes to play. Wichita got is chance to get even when the Oilers went down on a 5-on-3 power play with 2:17 left. It took Mark Adamek just 16 seconds on the two man advantage to tie the game. With Wichita on the power play, Adamek connected again just 14 seconds later, giving Wichita a 3-2 lead with 1:47 left to play.

But Eastman led a rush 28 seconds later and with 1:19 left, Mike Beausoleil jammed home the tying goal.

The Oilers killed off a penalty to Derek Merlini in the overtime, forcing the shootout. Oilers goaltender Marty Magers, playing in his first game of the season, stopped all four Wichita shooters while Rob Hisey and T.J. Caig were both able to beat Wichita goaltender Jon Horrell (also playing his first game of the season).
