IceRays Beat Gorillas 4-1

Kevin Nastiuk made 24 saves on 25 shots and four different Rays scored as the Corpus Christi IceRays beat the Amarillo Gorillas 4-1 at the Amarillo Civic Center on Sunday night. The victory improved the IceRays season record to 6-7-2, and gave them a 2-2 record in a busy four-game week. The IceRays return home on Saturday night to host the Laredo Bucks at 7:05pm on Caller-Time Family Night. Get a Caller-Times family four-pack of tickets for just $34. The IceRays and their opponent remained scoreless through the first period for the second straight night. The IceRays outchanced the Gorillas, and outshot them 12-6 in the period, but neither team was able to light the lamp and the teams went to the second period searching for the first goal of the game.

The IceRays took the lead with a pair of goals in the second. First Chad Woollard scored from the slot at 4:42 to break the scoreless tie with his sixth goal of the season. Then at 9:00 Adam Powell scored on a rebound from the top of the crease on a two-man advantage. The Rays outshot the Gorillas 11-5 in the period.

The IceRays increased their lead to 3-0 when Chris Richards scored on an odd-man rush at 4:33. Stuart MacRae got Amarillo on the board with his eight goal of the year at 9:04 and lead the Amarillo comeback hopes. But Corpus Christi closed the door after that. Justin Quenneville added an empty net goal at 19:08 to cap the scoring.

Kevin Nastiuk (2-2) made 24 saves on 25 shots earning the win, while Mike Brown (4-5-1) took the loss stopping 23 of 26 shots. The IceRays power play went 1-3 and the Gorillas went 0-7. The IceRays outshot the Gorillas 27-25 in the game.
