Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release
SPRINGDALE, Ark. - The Northwest Arkansas Naturals proudly announced today - Friday - that Wil Myers, a former standout for the Naturals in 2011 and 2012, has been inducted into the Naturals Hall of Fame. Myers was elected to receive the honor by the Naturals' Hall of Fame Voting Committee over fellow 2023 candidates, LHP Danny Duffy, INF Matt Fields, and LHP Everett Teaford.
Will Myers broke into Double-A as the youngest player on the Naturals' roster at 20-years of age and one of the most publicized prospects at the time. In 134 career games in Northwest Arkansas, he slashed .279/.369/.486 with 21 home runs, 34 doubles, and 79 RBI. He earned a Texas League Mid-Season All-Star nod and a trip to the Sirius/XM Futures Game during the 2011 season. Myers opened the 2012 season on the Naturals roster and proceeded to set the league on fire. He hit safely in 32 of his 35 games, boasting a .343/.414/.731 with 13 home runs, 11 doubles, and 30 RBI at the age of 21. Baseball America, USA Today, and Topps named him the 2012 Minor League Player of the Year joining the likes of Andruw Jones and Josh Beckett as the only players to win the award from all three publications in the same season. In December of 2012, the Kansas City Royals traded Myers to the Tampa Bay Rays in the James Shields and Wade Davis deal. Myers went on to win the 2013 Jackie Robinson American League Rookie of the Year Award. In 2016, he was elected to the MLB All-Star Game and competed in the All-Star Home Run Derby as a member of the San Diego Padres. He currently plays for the Cincinnati Reds.
Myers becomes just the eighth individual to be inducted into the Naturals Hall of Fame. He joins elite company as he will now be honored with a plaque next to the likes of Clint Robinson ('13), Brian Poldberg ('14), Mike Moustakas ('15), Eric Hosmer ('16), Salvador Perez ('18), Kila Ka'aihue ('19), and Whit Merrifield ('22). The Naturals Hall of Fame is located just inside the main gates of Arvest Ballpark along the wall of the Northwest Health Community Room. Fans are encouraged to check out all of the Hall of Fame plaques with each player's stats and accolades as well as the Season 10 Team ('17).
The Naturals 2023 Hall of Fame Induction was presented by Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield.
