Wiesblatt Wins It Over The Rebels In Overtime

Medicine Hat, AB - A three point night from Oasiz Wiesblatt (Calgary, AB) along with two goals including the overtime winner gave the Tigers the extra point in Tuesday's victory over the Red Deer Rebels.

A tight first period saw both teams cash in once on the eight shots by the Rebels & Tigers. The Rebels would answer first as Matthew Gard would pot a rebound past Tigers goaltender Ethan McCallum (Brandon, MB) to make it 1-0 at 16:11. 1:25 later the Tigers would respond as Gavin McKenna (Whitehorse, YT) would make no mistake beating Chase Wutzke to put the game in a deadlock at 1-1 with McKenna's 12th of the season. Wiesblatt & Dru Krebs (Okotoks, AB) would draw assists. Krebs with the point would reach his 100th point in his career. with the Tigers through 246 games.

In the second period the Tigers penalty kill would be handed a daunting task as Bogdans Hodass would be removed from the game for a major boarding penalty leading to a five minute power play. Only giving up one shot the Tigers would kill it off and be rewarded shortly after with a Oasiz Wiesblatt power play goal for his 12th the season just solving Wutzke. McKenna & Andrew Basha (Calgary, AB) would count on the scoresheet. The Tigers would take that very lead to the third period.

An early power play in the third period would see the Rebels cash in at 1:47 as Hunter Mayo would beat Ethan McCallum on a point shot to tie the game at 2-2. The Tigers would fire 12 shots towards Chase Wutzke but could not get a chance at the regulation win.

Off to overtime where Oasiz Wiesblatt for the second time this season calls game with just seven seconds left in overtime after a late Rebels penalty, beating Wutzke short-side to give the Tigers the win and their 23rd of the season to keep their seperation from the rest of the pack atop the Central Division Standings.

The Tigers improve to 23-11-2 on the season while the Rebels drop to 18-13-5. These two foes won't have to wait long to rekindle their season series as they'll lock horns again on Friday, January 5.
