Edmonton Oil Kings News Release

Kamloops, BC - The Edmonton Oil Kings extended their point streak to six games (5-0-1-0) thanks to a second straight victory as they defeated the Kamloops Blazers 3-1 at the Sandman Centre on Wednesday night.

A fairly even first period didn't yield a goal until the final three-and-a-half minutes when the Oil Kings would score twice to take a 2-0 lead to the first intermission.

Landon Hanson opened the scoring with a beautiful goal after taking a pass at his own blueline from Treycen Wuttunee, skating the length of the ice, dancing around a Kamloops defenceman in the high slot before elevating a shot over the glove of Dylan Ernst for his third goal of the season.

Exactly 2:30 later, Gracyn Sawchyn collected his second goal as an Oil Kings after Ty Nash stripped a Blazer rearguard of the puck in the right-circle of the Kamloops zone and hit Sawchyn breaking to the net with a pass where he would then deke around Ernst to give Edmonton the 2-0 lead.

Kolby Hay turned in 12 saves in the first period including a breakaway save in the closing moments on Nathan Behm to preserve the two-goal lead.

In the second period, both goaltenders stood their ground sending the game to the second intermission still in favour of the Oil Kings at 2-0 and the shots even at 24.

In the third period, the Oil Kings added to their lead just 1:18 in after Gavin Hodnett, Nash and Sawchyn combined for a beautiful tic-tac-toe passing play that led to Sawchyn's second goal of the game.

The Blazers had a chance a short time later to get on the board after Connor Levis was awarded a penalty shot but it was thwarted by an excellent right-pad save by Hay.

The Blazers would break Hay's shutout bid in the closing moments with a 6-on-4 power play goal with under 90 seconds left but that would be as close as they would get as the Oil Kings skated away with a 3-1 win.

Hay finished the night making 35 saves, while Ernst turned in 27 for the Blazers. Edmonton went 0-for-4 on the power play, Kamloops was 1-for-3.
