Wicky surgery, Nurse ITC, Galindo green card

CARSON, Calif. (Wednesday, July 16, 2008) - Chivas USA's Raphaël Wicky successfully underwent right ankle reconstruction surgery this morning at the Surgery Center of the Pacific in Santa Monica, Calif. The procedure was performed by team physicians Dr. Michael Gerhardt and Dr. Bert Mandelbaum. Wicky could be out for up to 3-4 months. A World Cup veteran with over decade's professional experience in Germany, Spain and Switzerland, Wicky has appeared in five matches for the Red-and-White this season, notching one assist.

In other team news, Roberto Nurse, who was signed to a contract with Chivas USA on Tuesday, has received his International Transfer Certificate and could make his debut tonight against Santos Laguna in SuperLiga. The 24-year-old striker was most recently with Querétaro of the Mexican Primera ‘A', where he led the team with 17 goals between the Apertura 2007 and Clausura 2008 seasons. He has also played in the Mexican First Division with Cuernavaca, Atlante, and Querétaro.

Finally, Cuban forward Maykel Galindo has received his United States Permanent Resident Card (also known as a green card) from the U.S. government. The Villa Clara, Cuba, native defected to the United States during the 2005 CONCACAF Gold Cup, and was granted political asylum. He will continue in his current roster status with the team, as Galindo was not considered a foreign player before the receipt of his green card.

Chivas USA faces a must-win game when it takes on Santos Laguna tonight, Wednesday, July 16, at 7:00 p.m. at The Home Depot Center in the Red-and-White's second group-stage SuperLiga match. The team then hits the road for Chivas USA's first-ever official match in Orange County, playing the New England Revolution on Sunday, July 20, at 5:00 p.m. at Titan Stadium on the campus of Cal State Fullerton.
