Colorado Rapids News Release
Commerce City, CO (Wednesday, July 16, 2008) - The Colorado Rapids announced today that they have signed midfielder Greg Dalby to their senior roster. Per team and league policies, terms were not disclosed.
Dalby was originally selected by Colorado with the 17th overall pick in the 2007 MLS SuperDraft.
"We took a risk when we drafted Greg knowing he had the ability and desire to pay in Europe," said Head Coach Fernando Clavijo. "That risk paid off today as we have signed a top, up-and-coming midfield talent."
The San Diego area native played this last year for Charleroi in the Belgian first division. A deal to play for Preston North End in England fell through because of work permit problems. Dalby also had trials with Celtic FC in Scotland, FC Nuremberg in Germany and Siena in Italy.
Dalby has represented the United States at many youth levels. Earlier this year he was on the U-23 squad that competed in the Toulon Tournament in France. The Notre Dame product also captained the US U-20 team at the World Youth Championships in Holland in 2005. While in South Bend, Dalby earned first team All-American honors in 2005 and 2006.
