Wichita Powers Past Rage for Bilodeau's First Win

BROOMFIELD, CO- The Wichita Thunder earned their first victory of the season with a 6-3 win over the Rocky Mountain Rage on Friday night. Rookie Mike Carmody earned first star honors with a goal and an assist. Scott Rozendal scored the game winner at the 8:27 mark in the second period. Greg Cassista chiped in two assists in the game.

Wichita grabbed an early 1-0 lead on Stan Yanchishyn's power play goal 3:45 into the game. The Rage went on to score two unanswered goals later in the period to take their only lead of the night.

Troy Ofukany tied the game with a goal just 1:57 into the second, before Rozendal helped Wichita regain the lead. Carmody scored his goal at 11:23 into the second, and the Thunder never relinquished their two-goal lead.

Jason Duda and Brad Thompson added goals in the third. Krister Toews earned his first professional win, saving 39 of 42 shots and even chipping in an assist on offense. By the end of the game, Carmody, Cassista, Duda, and Matt Byrnes all finished with two points.

The win marked the first in the tenure of first-year head coach Brent Bilodeau. Wichita concludes their roadtrip Saturday night against the New Mexico Scorpions with an 8:05 p.m. opening faceoff.
