Scorpions Fall To Odessa

[RIO RANCHO, N.M.]-The Scorpions fell at home to division rival Odessa 9-2 on Friday night. The win moved the Jackalopes two points ahead of the Scorpions in the Southwest Division.

Odessa scored early and often in the opening six minutes of the contest. Dominic Leveille started it with his first goal of the season at the 3:33 mark. Russ Moyer and Brian Swiniarski added to the lead when they each scored goals 11-seconds apart.

Dave Van Drunen made it 4-0 at the 6:27 mark. After the fourth goal Scorps bench boss Randy Murphy lifted goaltender Jason Wolfe in favor of Andrew Martin.

The Scorpions gave their fans a reason to cheer when Corey Courchene scored a power play goal at the 7:45 mark of the second period. Odessa answered right back with a power play goal from Collin Circelli.

Back to the power play went the Scorps and they answered when Sam Bowles redirected a Russell Smith shot to the back of the net. The Jackalopes took back momentum with two goals late in the middle frame. Mike Lesperance and Mike Ramsey gave their team a 7-2 lead after 40 minutes.

Odessa tacked on two more power play goals in the third period. Lesperance knocked in his second goal of the night at the 13:18 mark. Leveille, who started the scoring, also finished it with his second goal with less then a minute showing on the third period clock.

Saturday night is PETCO Pets 'n' Puck Night. Bring your pet to the game as the fun will include our furry friends. Pets get in free and human tickets are only $9.50.

Hot dogs are only $1 all night long when the Scorps host Wichita at 7:15 p.m.
