Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
BOSSIER CITY, LA. - Players and team staff from the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs spend Wednesday helping our friends from Landers Dodge build a brand new playground at Central ParkElementary School in Bossier City. The entire roster of players and front office staff were in attendance helping to build new playground equipment, construct an outdoor classroom, install new landscaping, and create a shade pavilion for the students at the school.
The project was organized by Landers Dodge and the Chrysler foundation and put on by KaBOOM!, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing places to play within walking distance of every child in America. Since its inception in 1995, KaBOOM! has led over 1,500 playground construction projects done entirely by volunteers.
"It was an absolute pleasure to have the chance to participate in building a playground at Central Park Elementary," said President & General Manager Ray Delia. "I would like to commend Denny Rogers and his staff at Landers Dodge as well as the Chrysler Foundation for their passion for our community. This is a project that makes a difference in Bossier City, and the Mudbugs are committed to participating in endeavors that improve the quality of life in our community."
Mudbugs Head Coach Scott Muscutt and defenseman Quade Lightbody could be seen hauling concrete while forward Joe Blaznek hammered shingles and rookie Clay Thoring lifted sheets of plywood. Teamwork was the order of the day, as Mudbugs players Neil Clark, Ryan Mior and Todd Paul joined Bossier-Shreveport BattleWings Head Coach Jon Norris in looking more like carpenters than members of pro sports teams.
"When you look at the playground they had there before, there was only one little jungle gym," said Mudbugs forward Brett Smith. "To be able to help put smiles on the faces of all those kids really means a lot to all of us. The local community does so much for us, and I think we all want to be involved in giving something back."
Volunteers from all over the Bossier-Shreveport community were involved in building the playground, which was constructed entirely in one day. People began arriving before 8:00 am on Wednesday to start the project, which was completed before 3 o'clock in the afternoon.
The Mudbugs will take to the ice next at 7:05 on Saturday night at CenturyTelCenter against the Mississippi RiverKings. Prorated season and group packages are on sale through the Mudbugs office at 318-752-BUGS and individual tickets are available through Ticketmaster at 318-741-9700.
