Amarillo Gorillas News Release

Amarillo, TX 10/24/08 - After a promising start, the Amarillo Gorillas fell for the second straight time at home, 4-3, to the Texas Brahmas Friday night.

The game began with Amarillo receiving an early power play-just one minute into the game, the Brahmas' Aaron Davis was whistled for hooking. Gorillas defenseman Nick Theriault took a loose puck at the top of the slot and ripped a slapshot past Texas starting netminder Brett Jaeger to give the Gorillas an early 1-0 lead. Texas would answer just moments later, as Scott Sheppard deflected a Justin Kinnunen centering pass behind Amarillo goaltender Ryan Scott to tie the game at one.

Midway through the period, Texas went back on the powerplay following an Austin Sutter hooking penalty. With just two seconds left on the man-advantage, Marc Belanger poked the puck behind Scott to give the Brahmas a 2-1 advantage. The Gorillas came back to tie the game when Luke Lynes, freshly assigned from the AHL's Springfield Falcons, tapped a cross-crease pass to Joe Guenther who deposited the puck behind Jaeger. The goal for Guenther was his first at the Amarillo Civic Center since the 2006 CHL playoffs.

The Gorillas' Stuart MacRae, acquired from Texas mid-way through training camp, nipped at his former team by scoring a goal just 1:24 into the second period to put Amarillo up 3-2. Taking a feed off the right wing boards from Theriault, MacRae raced in on Jaeger and deked to his right, punching a backhand just under the outstretched arm of the Texas backstop and over the goal line.

Jaeger would be stingy in net the rest of the game, however, as the Brahmas got powerplay goals from Davis and Pete Rouleau to go up 4-3 heading into the third period. Despite 16 third-period shots, the Gorillas could not manage to beat the Brahma netminder before the final buzzer. Amarillo's best chance came with just 16.3 second left, when MacRae slapped a rebound towards a gaping Texas net, only to be stopped by a flash of Jaeger's right pad.

Amarillo drops to 0-3-0 on the season with a loss, while Texas improves to 2-1-0. The Gorillas managed to go 2-for-9 on the man-advantage, with the Brahmas scoring all four of their goals on the power play (4/11). For the third time in as many games, Amarillo outshot their opposition (42-32).

The Gorillas will next host the undefeated Colorado Eagles at the Amarillo Civic Center. Opening face-off is scheduled for 7:05 PM Central Time-tickets are still available by calling (806) 242-PUCK (7825).
