Wichita Falls in a Shoot 3-2 to Rapid City

Wichita, KS (March 14th) - Wichita (40-16-3) let a lead slip out of its hands and lost in a shootout, 3-2, to Rapid City (34-20-6) Wednesday night at INTRUST Bank Arena. Despite the loss, Wichita gains some ground on Allen for the Berry Conference title and three points ahead of the Evansville IceMen for the most points in the CHL.

Thomas Beauregard (21) opened up the scoring three minutes into the first period when Alex Bourret stole a dump-in at the left circle and found his line-mate at the right side of the net to make it 1-0. Scott Wray tied the game at one at the 11 minute mark.

With just over five minutes to go in the second, Justin Sawyer (5) took a Matt Summers pass at the left face-off circle and put it through Rapid City goalie Tim Boron to give the Thunder a 2-1 lead.

Rapid City tied the game at two late in the third period as Konrad Reeder found a rebound at the right of the net and put it home.

The two teams needed overtime and both had some quality scoring chances. Neither team could find the back of the net and headed to a shootout for the third time this season. Wichita fell behind two goals to none in rounds two and three as Jesse Schultz and Colin Circelli scored. Matt Summers and Alex Bourret sent it to extra shooters with back-to-back goals to tie it at two through four rounds. In round seven, Riley Weselowski scored the game-winning goal as Chris Chappell was unable to extend it another round and Wichita lost 3-2.

Wichita's record in a shootout slips to 7-2, but gained a point and now leads Allen by eight for first place in the Berry Conference. Sawyer set a new career-high and can eclipse his career numbers (7) with three more goals this year. The Thunder closed out its regular season-series against Rapid City, going 4-3-1. The loss is Wichita's first in shootout fashion on home-ice as its record is 22-6-1.
